The practical distinctions tend to be manufacturer-specific: balloon material, exact fill volume ranges, and the support programme that comes with each device. Neither is a clearly “better” option in general. The right choice usually comes down to what’s available, your clinician’s experience with a given device, and how your stomach and history fit each product’s specifications. Medsil vs Allurion
Here the difference is bigger. Allurion is swallowed as a capsule, with no sedation and no endoscope, and it empties and passes naturally at the end of its cycle. Medsil, like Orbera, needs an endoscopic procedure for placement and a separate endoscopic or non-surgical removal step at the end of its six months. If avoiding sedation entirely is a priority for you, that alone may point toward Allurion rather than Medsil. Recovery: is it different with Medsil?
Gastric balloon recovery time is broadly similar across the endoscopic devices. Expect some nausea and adjustment in the first few days as your stomach gets used to the balloon, easing over the following week or two as you settle into the eating pattern your team recommends. Because Medsil and Orbera are placed the same way, there’s no meaningful recovery difference between them. Allurion’s early days look similar too, even without the sedation step beforehand.
